Sportsmanship is a student-athlete's active understanding of and commitment to fair play, ethical behavior, integrity, and general goodwill toward any participant in competitive sports (game officials, coaches, teammates, opponents, and spectators). It affirms the student-athlete respects all stakeholders including himself or herself before, during, and after sports competitions. Furthermore, sportsmanship requires the student-athlete to demonstrate the ability to maintain measured self-control in all situations by remaining poised while placing the team’s needs first, especially when making choices in difficult situations.
